I have been going through a box of cents and have read about the 74 large and small dates. What I can't determine is what the differences are (I have seen a couple of descriptions but not really helpful), and is it even worth finding out what they are. Is there a premium for either of them?

No premium for either. They are both very common, so common that they aren't even listed as separate varieties. I have to have one of each though just because I know they exist.

This will help you determine the difference:

notice the difference in the distance to the rim on the date and motto.

Yes, they have proven to be just what the words say on the reverse: ONE cent. Not really notable, other than they ARE copper, not zinc. Premium? No. I have a roll of each, and still set them aside when I find them. no reason, just a "hold-over", from my participation in the "Project". The others of the same project get set aside, as well, same reason.

I find it easier to look at IGWT, the lg date is almost touching the rim. The sm. date has a normal clearence from rim to motto.
