I'm sorry, I posted this topic in the wrong area to begin with. I just joined, so I still need to familiarize myself. Thank you for understanding.

Hi,

I have an 1862 Great Britain Half Penny. I have searched the web to get info on this coin, but I have come up empty. This coin is in excellent condition. On the front it says VICTORIA:D:G: BRITT:REG:F:D: On the back it very clearly says HALF PENNY 1862.

Their is a woman's bust on the front and what appears to be a man sitting holding a staff and shield on the back.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Lisa

British 1862 halfpennies are fairly common, though there are a couple of scarcer varieties listed in Krause for that date. The commonest variety catalogues for a few dollars in typical circulated grades, though a particularly well-preserved specimen can be worth more than that.

The figure seated on the reverse is Britannia, and she's female.

If you're after more info on the Web, try a Google or ebay search for either "British halfpennies" or "British half pennies".

It's Saturday, Jim. I can log on in the morning. I normally log on in the late afternoon/evening local time, which is early in the morning New York (forum) time.

In case some have missed it, there's a parallel thread on this coin here.
