I do not have the CherryPickers Guide that states the relative rarity scale number. If someone has that handy and could look it for me that would be very helpful :) I am trying to asses a value for one that I am contemplating purchasing. Thx!

I don't have a cherrypicker's guide, but Coppercoins has XF examples listed @ $75 and MS60 @ $140. What grade is it?

NGC slabbed 58. I am thinking that they are difficult to find, and not available too often, which may raise the price a bit, but do not know for sure.

CPG lists it as URS-11(501-1000) with a value of $100 in AU50 and $150 in MS60

They are not common, but they are not rare either. They are difficult to find in original source rolls. I've been looking incessantly since 1984 for one of them and have still never had luck.

As to number out there...I would agree with the authors of the CherryPickers' Guide on the number found - somewhere between 500 and 1000, with my estimate of 600-700 pieces.

Now...how many were struck? Well, nobody knows that for sure, but observation of known pieces and the die wear exhibited on these known pieces puts the approximate number of pieces struck somewhere around 50,000-75,000. Where are they? You tell me and we'll both know.

I took the plunge and purchased the NGC 58. Probably overpaid, but I figured that it was a unique variety, and I have not run across too many. I will post when I receive it in hand.

There is a dealer/collector (not me) that I know of that was sitting on well over 200 of these. It is said that he either was or is putting these on the market a little bit at a time.

They are difficult to find as this person discovered a majority of these many years ago.

I am not sure of the current status of how many this particular dealer/collector has in his inventory.

They are not terribly rare but the supply is being controlled to keep the prices up.

Thanks,
Bill
