sorry it did not post my comment before the pictures. This looks like a mini doubled ear on this 1984 LMC. I thought maybe deterioration but you can see the definite outline of the ear. What do you all think.

Machine Doubling can happen in this area. Try rotating your coin 180 degrees and take a shot. If it is shelf like its Machine Doubling. If it is raised it could be something else. Many possibilities. Just can tell from your images for sure what it going on?

It is not shelf like, it is definitely raised and not flat.

It's Machine Doubling, despite what it might look like. Nothing unusual about it.
