Well Superdave and Wheatguy after looking into the value of my good deal, I have come to the conclusion that I came out on the short end of the stick. Being proud of the what I thought was a good deal only to be told from this sites "Moderator" and its "Pillar of the Community" that "son it wasn't that good of a deal", makes me feel this isn't the site for me. I go now to learn all I can about this hobby called numismatics. If I do return I'll be sure not to boost of my good fortunes! To all the kind reply's I received from you members thanks so much, I've learned a lot!
Thanks,
Rastatodd

please don't leave, do you know how many times I thought of leaving because of someone being "mean" or "rude"? I probably considered leaving 2 times just today! But I cant! I get over and every day is a new day, please, don't leave CCF, who knows, you could be VERY important to us one day!

I wouldn't leave because I myself also didn't make good deal either from time to time. The opinions of other is what that counts, and what you will learned are invaluable toward the future of collecting coins.

I apologize if my response wasn't exactly nice. I replied directly to what you had posted, not really sure how it came across as being rude in any sort.

I was just informing you of the realities, just to make sure you learned that the PCGS price guide is not very accurate.

I really don't know how I could have made my posts more "kinder." I told you the facts. You didn't pay above what was the average, so I wasn't flaming you on the purchase.

I did however, sound a bit stiff and upfront, so I apologize if my words seemed colder than what I actually intended. Hopefully you'll stick around.

hey;
no matter what anyone says if you got a good deal or not, it is YOU that matters. I bought a capped bust half which people said I overpaid for and it was not worth it; are they right? probably in terms of monetary value, but I really liked the coin! I paid what I felt was right. Maybe that PCGS price guide is inflated, but you live and learn. I made some stupid buys off of ebay - some, like buying a fake coin. You at least got a certified coin. Please don't leave us - it is the variety of people that make this forum great.

A YN trying to sound mature =)

I say chill-out rastatodd and stick around.

Here is the real deal as I see it ......

You (and I) need true numismatic information .... and this is the best and kindest place on the web to get it.

Sorry if your feelings were hurt by the replies to your PCGS nickel (BTW .... what happened to those posts?) .... but ....

If you are paying attention without ego you would have learned something ...... and that is why this is a great place.

I truly hope you get over the disappointment of perhaps the 'words' and realize the value of the message ..... you will not get this kind of honest feedback anywhere else.

David

Interesting .. that your not happy.

Just my observation ... I read all your current post, that show up on your profile.

This is a good site to learn and get other peoples opinions.

I don't know everyone on this site .. but Super Dave is a real straight shooter.

Would you want .. someone to "only" tell you what you want to hear?

From your own post .. you said you learned from reading .. coin collecting for dummies.

Nothing wrong with that ... but buying and selling coins .. gets better with many years of experience.

You seem to be upset because you bought a PCGS MS 66 Jefferson for $14 and no one jumped up to say what a great deal that was. How I read it is .. where it is not a super good deal .. it is more along the lines of what you would expect to pay.

No one likes to hear they made a bad deal .. but believe me everyone on here has .. and will again.

There have been things people put on my posts that I don't like .. and maybe some of the ways I do things are not how others do them. But I have been doing this a long time .. and know what works for me.

bottom line .. this is a very good site to learn things and to get ideas on how other people collect.

You should stick around

As I see it you are taking every thing the wrong way, those guys gave you some good advice, i.e. the PCGS price guide is over priced 99% of the time. Better sources include greysheet, completed auction listings, numismedia, RedBook. Remember that price guides are just that guides. The coin is worth what someone will pay for it. Apparently it is worth $14.50 to you. If you are satisfied then you got a nice coin. Instead of getting mad and leaving you could acknowledge good advice and move forward.

rastatodd, we are all here to share our experiences with each other. So you overpaid for a $14.50 coin. Like it was stated before, if it was worth it to you, that's all that matters.

We've all been on the short end of the stick, but at least it was only a $14.50 stick and not a $1450 stick!

I did not see the thread in question, but I'll bet if you searched the forum, there are tons of "Did I get a good deal" threads. Some will be, most won't. But, that is why we are here. To learn from each other.

Well, that and the free popcorn..

This is what you were told, exact quotes:

Quote:
you'd know that the price you paid was no better than average for what you got.

Quote:
you did not get a deal.

Your reaction?

If being told the truth by two people who know what they're talking about makes this "not the site for you," you're probably correct in that assessment. We're not going to tell you that you got a good deal if you didn't. I wouldn't know where to suggest, though, to find people who will lie to you.

Good advice, along with some of the other posts in this thread. Learning how to accept a bit of constructive criticism is vital is this hobby.

I don't care what language you speak, but it obviously is not inglish,. That is beside the point. You seem offended in that you were not given false opinions. Your culture indicates a bit of a difference in how you think about how things are said, as opposed to being grateful for HONEST opinions. I think you should hang around, and get used to the truth, and honesty. There are those who could care less, but very few, if any are members here. you can accept good advice, or bad advice,. it is your choice, BUT, if you want to learn more "about this thing called numismatics", then this is the best place you can find to start.
A bit of advice, if you are interested: You should research your 'intended piurchases, particularily on ebay. There are many members, who are also sellers, and will give you an honest opinion about any listing you ask about. That is what they do.
The decision to leave, or stay is yours, and yours alone. It will not hurt anyone but you, if it turns out to be the wrong one!

Your profile states that you are 47. Yet, you have a 'take my marbles and go home' attitude. Maybe coin collecting is too emotional for you. A teacher grades a paper and marks the incorrect answers as wrong. You got a 'grade' from some experts, you might want to listen to them.
