Is it Illegal to melt canadian coins, yes. Do they have jurisdiction to procecute you in the US, no. Is it a crime in the US to deface foreign money, no, unless you are trying to modifiy it (ex. turn a five into a 100). Could you do it, yes. Would it cost more in gas to melt it than it is worth to do it, yes unless you have a smelter and can do it on a large scale (ex. greater than 100lbs)
