I've been asked a few times what cartwheel luster is. It's kind of hard to descibe, so I made a video: http://www.badthad.com/coin/cartwheel.wmvHere's how I described it: Quote:
If it cartwheels, you'll see what kind of looks like spokes on a wheel moving around the coin. It's like a moving band of reflected light moving around the center of the coin. It sort of looks as if someone very tiny was standing in the middle of the coin with a flash light in each hand doing circles....best I can describe it. |

You need to redo the video. The coin is out of focus and it does not display the cartwheel well. All you see is to left field being lit and then the right field. And although a cent can show cartwheel it is much easier to see and to notice how it rotates around the coin if you do it with a larger coin.

Is the definition of "cartwheel effect" leading to higher grades ? Only happens in MS grades generally ?

The cartwheel effect will be present in as much as the original mint surface on the coin remains. There is usually significant amount of cartwheel on AU coins, and occassionally on XF coins, usually more pronounced in the protected areas of the coin.

There's no macro mode available on my camera when it's set to video. Nothing I can do about the focus. If you look closely, there's at least one spot where you can see it rotating. Lincoln Cent Lover!VERDI-CARE™ INVENTOR https://verdi.care/

You guys should be on the comedy channel! Actually, you guys might be surprized to learn I have a pretty nice collection of MS Morgans. I also have a good number of other coins including gold....but I don't much care about them. LOL They just sit in my bank box. |
