A friend of mine from work brought in a coin for me to look at since she knows I am a collector.

Immediately when I saw the obverse first and it looked like a typical 1855 large cent, but then when I looked at the reverse, it looked like a masonic keystone. Within the keystone was a circle with the letters, H T W S S T K. After I googled for a bit I realized this was some sort of masonic token. However, I have not been able to id this coin with the large cent obverse and this keystone reverse.................Does anyone know of this....thanks

Pictures please

Does it look to be minted like it is .. or possible that the reverse was altered.

I would say you have a Freemason ceremony coin.

It has to do with "Duncan's Ritual of Freemasonry" In the ceremony, it is required to carry this symbol of the keystone and the initials H T W S S T K S between the thumb and first two fingers of the right hand. That just starts the ritual.

The initial represent "Hiram Tyrian Widows Son Sendeth To King Solomon" Yours should have another "S" at the end.

there was one of those on here before and from what I remember these were given to carry around as a pocket piece back then. Just as a love token they used a regular Large Cent and machined the Reverse and then placed the symbol on it

i am sorry, still having problems with my camera. I checked those photos fom what iahve googled. this one is specifically a large cent obverse with 1855 date, the reverse has a similar type keystone with the initials in a circle and within the corcle upon closer inspection it appears that there is faint image of a fishing reel.

I believe the design and date can change but the information in that thread I posted has most important information abut these type of coins. I don't think the date is as important as the symbol to them
