i went down to my local coin shop to get a pres dollar dansco and find some proofs. they only had the prez proofs with the year proof sets. so I couldn't get them separately.

my dealer discouraged me from buying a prez dollar dansco/proofs b/c breaking open the proofs in his opinion would devalue them. true, but I like how many of the ccf albums w/proofs look.

i know after you break open a proof you then have to deal with the " what do I do with the other coins".

also, is it a good idea for me to get the proofs for the prez dollars?

i only own 2 proofs. I never collected proofs before and I don't know if my OCD will kick in and tell myself I have to get all proofs for my 1909 -date Lincoln set. the coin shop had most individual proof cents for $1 but that would cost me quite a bit if I started collecting proofs.

ideas/ suggestions? thanks

The Mint sold, and you can buy proof sets of JUST the President dollars. The price tends to be very reasonable, and there are no other coins to have to worry about

Yep....like right here. This is what they look like. You don't need to buy a full year Proof Set to get these.

Better yet, right here you can get the 2010 Presidential dollar Proof Set from the Mints website right now. As Condor said.....you don't need to seperate it from a whole year Set at all....they're sold as a Set "seperately"....meaning, all Pres. coins from one year in the Proof Set.

Most coin shops should have these Presidential dollar Proof Sets.....current years cost as you can see are $15.95 plus shipping. So, around that or cheaper from a shop.

Well.....probably ! But that's the U.S. Mint....they ARE making money by selling the products ! ...
This is the same place everyone else has to buy them from too, if you want to buy them from the source, first, before any "secondary market"......though the secondary market could indeed be cheaper...I dunno.
It's your call on whether or not you feel this is "worth it" ! .....

I'm making a Proof only album.....good or bad ! Will it ever be worth the money it costs to make the album.......I doubt it....but maybe around there if I'm lucky. And if the San Fran. Mint makes some "low mintage" ones or something.......just time will tell. But, no matter, IMO, I think it will make a nice looking Set when I'm done.....and that's all that matters.

I have some dupes of the first year (Sets).....and an extra of 2008 I think.....but I've never sold any coins before.....and so I dunno if I want to part with any.
Lemme know if you don't score what you want from the forum, and we'll see.
