i asked my bank tellers the other day to hold any older 20's and 100 us bank notes they found.

they brought me a few yesterday but the dates were only early 90's. are they still worth more than face? or do they have to be crisp UNC?

Yeah, they still have to be more or less UNC to hold any selling premium.

ok. so should I tell the tellers to keep star notes for me? or older than 1976 bills?

Star notes are getting popular regardless if circ or not. As for modern type, go with uncs only.

My tellers save these bills for me as well and I take whatever they are willing to set aside for me. In a little over a year I probably have gone through close to $60K in the old bills. Most I have put back into circ, but needless to say with that volume there have also been quite a few gems that I have found as well. Silver certs, red seals, and even bills from series 1934 are still getting turned in.
