I just picked up an old 1961 price guide put out by Taylor & James published by the Canadian Numismatic Publishing Institute.
It was a much simpler time to collect coins. Terms like MS-6x and PL-6x did not exist. Highest grade coins were simply UNC (silver & nickel) or BU (1 cent coins).

In fifty years coins prices went up at least twenty times for the key dates.

Here is a sampling:

1c 1858 --> $50 BU
1c 1922 --> $150 BU
1c 1923 --> $150 BU
1c 1925 --> $125 BU
1c 1936 dot --> $2200 BU (what a bargain)
5c 1921 --> $1400 Unc
5c 1925 --> $175 Unc
5c 1926 (far 6) --> $250 Unc
10c 1889 --> $1000 Unc
10c 1936 dot --> $2200 Unc (what a bargain)
50c 1890H --> $1600 Unc
50c 1921 --> $4800 Unc
50c 1947* (curved) --> $425 Unc
50c 1948 --> $35 Unc
1$ 1948 --> $90 Unc (what a bargain)

Picked up this same book at a yard sale last summer.I was amazed to see they included tokens,both colonial and modern,communion tokens,"bons",scrip,province dominion and bank of Canada notes,as well as chartered and broken notes,all in one compact volume.One interesting thing I noted was that on page 64 they list PL sets starting in 1950,with mintage numbers.

DBM,

I looked page 64. Only one page for real mint products compared to an entire Charlton Volume 2 today for all sorts of assorted non-coin related crap like guitar picks and Olympic flame replicas.
