I stopped by my local dealer, here in Florida.

He had taken in a 1963 mint set, I guess they call them mint set in Canada also. It had a flat mylar with cent through dollar.

What is this worth?

22.00 retail, 17.50-20 on ebay. Mintage 673,006. So mainly worth and driven by their melt value.

A quite reasonable retail price especially with no shipping involved if you collect this type of set or just hoard silver (not that *I* would ever do that of course)

I've picked up a few of these mint sets, it's a good way to get some silver at spot. There's 1.11 ounces in the silver coins.

Melt is around $20.70, so it's pretty hard to go wrong at $20. I sometimes cut out the silver dollars and put my greasy, dirty fingers all over them. Every once in a while everyone needs a break from admiring coins through hermetically sealed layer(s) of plastic.

I laughed.
I have noticed that some ebay sellers do the same thing (usually just one small faint fingerprint)and then claim it to be an MS coin. Shady but profitable.

Since you mentioned it I've seen many sets of the obvious PL years in sequence nicely "toned up" by pros.

I actually like how crisp they look, that was the whole point in minting them.

Good info in this thread. I think after I get a few more nickels filled in I will try to get a nice set of 1961-1967 as I like a lot of different elements in that date range anyways.

Did those sets come with a generic envelope and COA? Or do they match the years? I take it toning and holes in the plastic are bad for this type of collecting? Anything else I should know or watch out for? Too bad ebay has the best prices... maybe I'll just be patient and find them somewhere else. I wonder how many have been cut up over the years?!?
Cheers

I must have at least 20 of the 1964 dollars still in the plastic but cut off from the rest of the sets. I imagine most of these have been cut up over the years.

I think a lot pf COAs got lost along the way, maybe half of mine still have them.

There are Arrowhead varieties on the dollar in 1961,1962 and 1963 sets. Some are real hard to find and managed to find all 3 years. At the rate of melting for silver, I have put these on the endangered list.As for value the 1963 arrowhead usually sells for around $50,the 1961 & 1962 arrowhead set will bring over $100.00 easily due to scarcity.

Well hopefully silver falls so not as many sets get cut up and I can get some sets for the coins - and not have to compete with the silver hoarders. I'll bookmark this to remember about the varieties, thanks!

From what I can see the COA seem to be generic, but I haven't see enough pictures of complete sets yet to be sure.

Up to 1971, the envelope was a yellowish kraft paper.

Chadcoins,
Could you help me out. I have a 1962 and 1963 Silver Dollars labeled "Arrowhead" variety. I posted about them here.
https://goccf.com/t/68864#68864

What specifically makes the "Arrowhead" variety?
