k you know what at least I found a forum to vent....

I just picked up my Canadian coin news and I will admit it has been a few weeks but low and behold I could not find the PL/Uncirculated listing....it took a few for me to figure it out tell me I ask how come people don't realize that change is not always good and to top it off my PL sets now come in more than one grade even if the set is not opened I Think....I am so confused I do belief it is a conspiracy between the mint and trends

With everything that the RCM spews out, there is no longer room in trends to list everything. They reduce their "extra" listings, with circulating coinage in every issue. Then they alternate the other numismatic niches ... Newf and the Maritimes, then the RCM regular issues and then their plethora of giftware. Even Charlton now comes out with 2 editions .. one for real coins and other for NCLT.

No longer room? LOL. Its a NEWSPAPER! Print another page. If they are worried about the cost of ink/paper etc, get rid of one of their pointless articles (they have a few each issue). Most people would rather have the trend prices IMO

The solution is to subscribe to CCN .. then, in the course of a month, you have everything that they used to have in every issue, plus the additional stuff that they now list, including paper. Look at a Trends from a few years ago and see how much it has grown in size. It's a NEWSpaper .. not a bi-weekly price guide. The prices listed are a guide only ... and 4 or 6 weeks delay in getting them out isn't going to make one iota of difference in the long run. For a long, long time, Charlton's was the only guide around and it was set-up for print 6 months in advance ... so you had a guide that was 18 months old at the end of the published year. Prices cahnged minutely then, if at all. I think Trends is doing just fine and would possibly do much better with more actual subscribers, rather than a bookstore purchase every 6 months.

I agree the CCN paper is probably the best up to date Canadian coin information publishing going it has a little of everything and as mentioned above and the latest up to date trends going. All articles written won't please everyone but there is most likely something for everyone in each paper that you will enjoy? Anyone who is not a subscriber is really losing out. I have been a subscriber for over 30+ years and to see it go would be like losing one of my best friends.

I also subscribe, as it's dirt cheap to do so. My opinion, and one that many people don't agree with,
is that Trends should cover the basics: circulating coins (Canada and maritimes)and basic PL, SP, and
PR sets. There is a whole book dedicated to the other stuff: Charlton volume 2.

1 cent,
absolutely said to the point...
who wants yellow snakes and pink crocodiles.......AND
3 dollar coins, or 8 dollar coins, or 1 KG coins?

who wants them..... the international market and a very few locally.... it is BIG $$$$$$$
and that is what the mint is all about.... NOW.
their mandate is making money.......and they do it well.
have no time for it...
I believe the purposely create "mint errors" to keep locals on their toes.

They cover most all Canadian very well and I have subscribed for a few years and it is really cheap and comes by weekly, so once a month you still get the whole Canadian scene. If you collect circulations only, it's always there as a core, for the fringe collectors those are on every other week.
There is always a slight disdain for the mints over marketing, and there is certainly good reason for that, but it is part of the market and I think it encourages new collectors and that is necessary for the health of the hobby.

Agreed with Mr Canada.CCN is the best way to stay informed on Trends. The paper covers ALL canadian coins. It reflect any recent auctions and TPG population reports and makes correction accordingly. The majority of the price changes are for issued for circulation coins.Very few changes are ever done for the Collectors Coins.Other publications are pricing there items once a year. The choice is yours.
