Coins, I do not know anything about the series of notes but that's one nice looking note for its age. When I showed it to my son he brought this link up on Calhoun. That's one Scary looking guy.

Glad things worked out for you.

Peace

Congrats on the authentication .

In the past I have said that Calhoun looks like he is trying to set the world on fire with his mind... or maybe just the North.

$90 at auction. I have been offered amounts ranging from $1250-2000 by several dealers and auction houses. I believe every one seemed to have over looked the #2 serial .

Nice note - CSA notes should be moving up in value within a year. The $100 notes, especially with this serial number 2, should be a premium for you. IMO, I would holdback and watch Heritage and the others for a few weeks and track the T-41 lots (and the seriel numbers) and watch the movement. Congratulations - I know you were glad to see this come back with this high of a grade - these notes are heavily counterfeited. There may not be a T-41 certified with the serial number 1. In that case, you are holding a very interesting note:)

I didn't even notice the #2 until a year after buying it.

Most excellent! I am quite surprised. I was fairly convinced that the note was counterfeit because of the impressive ink and the plate letter being wrong. Well, it is in a PCGS holder now, and that is the important thing. My sincere congratulations. Hold on to it, a note like this will only appreciate over time.

What does the PCGS certification do the value of this piece?

In my opinion, it doesn't do anything for the value of a note in this class. What it does do is make any potential transaction more liquid as people not comfortable with judging a note authentic might be more likely to engage in bidding for it. People are comforted by labels. I don't think I've ever let the grading party influence the price, it's just yet another point of view.

To sort of paraphrase, It MIGHT increase the value on an ebay sale from where it would normally end due to hesitation over authenticity - But if you're selling directly to an interested party it shouldn't do a thing except establish a good starting price for negotiation :D

And that's a very nice note. Well done.
