so I've been studying up on these a bit, and I see quite a few auctions that look a little odd? Just wanted to see what kind of opinion you guys have on them

http://cgi.ebay.com/1921-D-50c-anac...em5192654d1b

This one is a 1921-D that is graded by ANACS as an F-15, from the pictures, the details on the coin look like AG3 or G4? Maybe just a really bad picture?

Then there's this one, a 1921-D with AU details is like a 5000 dollar coin, why is it not certified and slabbed? Because it's been cleaned and he wouldn't get a grade on it?

The first coin looks like a F-12, or perhaps the somewhat bad pictures are hiding something. Perhaps ANACS bumped it up a bit due to it being a key date. Most likely it looks better in hand

The second coin has been dipped before, which would lead it to be given a Genuine designation or a Details grade. Some sellers have very expensive raw inventory that they don't slab, and many people like to take chances on raw coins and pay a lot of money, possibly leading to more profit to the dealer. Also, the size and value of the inventories of dealers may lead to that coin being better off being sold raw, instead of the dealer going through the trouble to slab it.

I can't say for sure why the second coin wasn't slabbed, but I know someone that found an 1870CC Seated Liberty quarter while metal detecting. It was AG3-G4. He didn't bother getting it slabbed, he just put it on ebay (make an offer price) raw and sold it within a week for $6000 (that's roughly double RedBook prices). Slabbing is overrated except for maybe the most commonly counterfeited coins.

The seller of the dipped coin is a large buyer of raw coins and sells many of them on ebay."problems" are usually spelled out, as in this case, and he has a good return policy.
