2006 2 Euro - Coin Community Forum

John1 Moderator United States 56855 Posts	Posted 05/07/2010 11:08 am My sister got a 2006 2 euro from a pay-out machine at a local casino. It's about twice as thick as a U.S. cent and has a grove around the edge. Is this normal for a 2 euro? Is it copper? Thanks for your help, John1 Report this Post to the Staff

Yes it does have a groove around the edge and it's made of copper-plated steel. The reverse design (the side with the number two on it) is the same on all 2 euro cent coins (with a very slight modification of the map of Europe after 2007) but the obverse will tell you which country issued it. Each country (originally 12 but now more) having its own designs. Now there's a set that will take some time to collect! Report this Post to the Staff

augsburger Pillar of the Community Germany 1064 Posts	Posted 05/07/2010 3:33 pm Yeah, these are the the executive throwing coins, the 1 cent coins being the poorer man's throwing object. But, a good starting point for a collection, each country produces their own coins, so that is the original twelve nations, with slovenia, slovakia, cyprus, malta and the other three, sna marino, the vatican and monaco which have such low numbers and are very expensive for what they are. They have changed their designs for some coins a bit. The €2 commemoratives are probably the most collectable if you are in the US. It is quite a big task to have all the circulating euro coins, but possible and affordable. Each set of 8 coins is usually worth about $10 in shiny condition (i know you have your system of coins but I understand it not) over in Europe. Report this Post to the Staff
