I was wondering what the grade of coins found in Canadian mint sets is typically ?

In particular; Specimen sets and Uncirculated sets.

This is my take on it. They can vary like any other coin and as the years went on the coins in the sets became more technically perfect in general. So looking at this years specimen set on average you could expect grades ranging anywhere from SP65-70. As to the uncirculated sets in pliofilm they tend to get marked up more easily since there is no hard case. They generally grade lower once broken out of the film. That's why it's nice to find a Silver dollar in PL with no dents or dings and if the strike is really nice (certainly most weren't great) you can get a PL67 ish.

I'd guess around 65. That's sort of the median grade, most people aren't too interested in PL/SP 64's. As ugly points out, the modern stuff has tighter quality control. The proofs are probably 67's on average. There's always the US/Canadian disparity though, as we use a grading scale that's two points shorter. For certain years of silver PL sets, 64's may be the norm.

I may not remember exactly, but there was a time when the Specimen, PL, and Proof sets were all individualy graded. later, I believe the Specimen was uupgraded to proof. Correct me if I am wrong. As far as the mint weapped coins in celophaane, I consider them Mint unceirclated, but business strike. Again corrections are in order, if warranted. No 1 is perfik.
