Whenever I see coins like this I always think "People actually passed this around before a collector passed it around?" and facepalm. But, I always think that there are more coins like this out there and I could become that collector!

In my opinion, that would be pretty tough to fake. I guess TPG's won't touch it.

OK, now all I need is a '59-D in about F and an ebay account.

As a purchase it is not within my reach, but I would like to see it in person.

I would be a little apprehensive about this piece; "the coin was given a "No Decision" by American Numismatic Association Authentication Bureau." The ANAAB would authenticate it? I would still LOVE to have it though!

You would think it being declared genuine by the Forensic Services Division of the Treasury Dept would be good enough for everyone.
But it will still be sold as "The property is not guaranteed to be authentic, and is marketable as is, and can not be returned."
I'm sure whoever buys it will not be concerned with returning it!
I wonder if they take paypal?

I'll take the treasury examining it multiple times and calling it real over a TPG's refusal to authenticate it based on a hunch any day. Of course I don't have the money for that coin and I'm not all that big on Lincoln cents, so I don't have to worry about it!

Having the secret service look at it and return it TWICE goes a very long way toward some form of authentication. If it is a fake please tell me where I can buy one with the word copy on it as I want one for my collection! Sincerely, John Leckrone

I'd buy it, but my folder doesn't have a hole for it.

Maybe the current owner could offer a reward for normal 1958-D and 1959-D cents with the matching die polish lines, thereby proving the authenticity of this coin as the article suggests. It would start a buying frenzy on 58-D and 59-D rolls.
