Hi folks,

We've been recommended to George Dysinger in Tulsa, OK to go through our coin collection. We've been told that we can trust him implicitly, and that he's a foremost authority on coins. Apparently we can drop our coins off, come back a few hours later, and get a check for apparently absolute "top dollar". What do y'all think?

Can anyone vouch for him?

Thanks!
Jesse

I do not know of this person (assuming he is a dealer)butv I can't imagine you getting paid top dollar from any dealer as they are there to make a profit. You will almost always come out better selling directly to collectors through venues such as ebay and the like. Just from personal experience you spend more for a coin from a dealer and you sell for less to a dealer. Remember they are there to make a profit and feed the family.

Well, we asked about that. And the person referring him said that this guy goes through literally tens of millions of dollars of coins a year, and that he makes a profit on volume - not necessarily on markup. We're hoping to hear from people who have dealt with him.

to the Community!

If you like, please share with us what you have! You would get another opinion on the value, something that you can use when you get the offer the dealer.

I see that you have previously shared something with the Community.

The collection is quite large and diverse - lots of everything. My wife is primarily going through it, so I'm not as familiar with the specifics.

We did verify that George is PCGS certified - how much credibility does that give him?

"top dollar" for him or you? You wouldn't know if a dealer switched a very expensive coin for an inexpensive one, while you were gone. I suggest you go to a local coin club meeting, ask who's trustworthy and pay them to go over your collection, with you present, and tell you what a fair price might be.

10's of millions of coins per year, yet almost nothing on a google search but yellow pages type pages? That screams "warning Will Robinson!" to me big time! Like others have said here, go to your local coin club, find someone experienced, and pay him/her to go through those coins with you, then sell them on ebay (make sure you have a reserve, if you expect at least so much), and good luck!

I did think it was odd that a Google search yielded almost nothing but a couple of phone numbers. We actually did consult with a local coin collector who is the uncle of a very good friend of my wife. That gentleman hooked us up with the local dealer (who he trusts implicitly and has dealt with for years). That dealer in turn referred us to George after looking at our collection for about 3 hours (and wouldn't let us pay him). So, we have a good "chain" of referrals from people we can trust.

The person who referred us to George did mention that George is a "dealer's dealer", and that he's somewhat behind the scenes. Perhaps he doesn't keep a high public profile? That's why we were hoping to find a few people who have dealt with him personally.

You might not find anyone here who has personally dealt with George Dysinger ..... but you will find plenty of un-biased experts who are willing for free to help you determine the fair valuation of the collection.

We do not know your situation ..... so .... if you need cash quick ... say .... to avoid foreclosure on the family estate or pay a huge tax bill ..... then maybe you best bet is to follow your leads to George. Best wishes with that and I expect if he an honest broker as represented to you then it will all work out.

However ..... if you have the grace of some time to sell ..... and a desire to learn about what you have ..... well ... the world-class experts here at the CCF will gladly give their opinions on what you have.

You state that your wife is the chief adjudicator of the collection ... so have her go through it and post some specifics in these pages.

We will all help as we can to be sure you get a fair deal.

Whatever you choose .... it sounds like fun and best wishes.

We're definitely not in a hurry to sell. But, we did find this dealer through a well-established "chain" of trust from people we know. It seems like he can't be all that bad. However, that's why we're trying to check him out.

Well that's one theory - a second would be that the dealer he is asking about is a straight-shooter and gives him an excellent deal. We just don't know.. and nobody has said they have dealt with him in the past, yet.

Hopefully someone will pipe up soon with that info, stream41 But since your wife's friend's Uncle's dealer knows about him, maybe others in the area have, as well. Have you called any of them?

100% ..... Thanks for sharing that wisdom xshift.

Let's give George Dysinger the benefit of the doubt ..... and encourage stream41 to pursue that avenue knowing that we are here to back them up if desired.

For stream41 .... we are here to help if asked ..... but it's your responsibility to complete the due-diligence on this dealer ... as you are trying to do now.
