Searching through the Sheldon-Pascal-Breen book "Penny Whimsy", I found no reference to a Cud on any of the 1800 reverse varieties, so maybe it is just wear (?).

It can't be a Cud.

Possibly a small die break.

A Cud must involve the rim.

I realize that, I was referring to the reverse rim at 1 o'clock.

Most likely S-203 which is known for that severe die clash of the bust through OF and the sinking of the die above it that wipes out the TES making it look like a Cud or Retained Cud.

No Cuds on 1800 reverses? Try NC-5 (always), S-194 (often), S-206 (often), S-207 (Always) and S-210 (often). There are others in some late states.

Yes, I agree, quite possibly.

I limited my search to Cuds around the 1 o'clock area.

Maybe if I couldn't tell time, I might have come up with such possibilities also.

You didn't say that you limited your search to the 1 o'clock area, you said "I found no reference to a Cud on any of the 1800 reverse varieties" Limiting to just the 1 o'clock area I would agree there aren't any. The NC-5 and S-210 come closest at about 3 o'clock..

Yes, you are correct Conder. I did not originally say that I limited my search to the 1 o'clock area, but, since that is what the OP's question pertained to, that is what I answered to. A case of miscommunication between us then. No hard feelings on my part.

No hard feelings here either, as you say a miscommunication. Have a good day, find something good next time you go looking.
