Hi everyone Its been awhile since I post last. I have found a new variety for the 1938 1 Eyrir a little while back. In the first picture is what I would call Type I-Up Right 8 and the second picture is Type II-Tilled or slant 8. Which is more common I would not know since I have come across a pretty much a equal number of them in each type. .

As you can see in the first photo the eight is at a different angle to the three and is above the top of the 3.
In the second photo the 8 is slanted to the right and the 8 is positioned lower then in the first picture.

A cool find that I wanted to share with you all. (Doing some bragging) I know KurtS sure would like to see this one.
Thank you for reading my post.

The bottom date looks a bit more crude, and what's that picking from inside the upper loop of the 8? Is it an overdate?

Hi svslav
What you see in the upper section of the loop is what I think is a doubling of the eight. If you were to look at allot of Icelandic coins from the Kingdom Era 1922-1940 that the Copenhagen Mint produced for Iceland you would see that the first two digits of the year are very uniform and look very much the same for every year and coin denomination but the last two digits are alway irregular and very uneven, Which makes me think that the last two number were punched in to the die, Saving them from having to remake the dies every time Iceland needed more coins as the years past.
Thanks svslav for reading my post.

I'll have to go through all my Iceland coins and examine them more closely. Though from the era you mentioned I have only one coin, 10 aurar 1936.

Yes, that's what I've noticed too. It appears to be a common convention for Sweden, Denmark, and Finland coins from that era. I'd also agree those two 38 dates in the first post appear to be sunk in the die and at different positions. Cool...I'll look through my coins too.
