Hope I'm in the right place. Please direct me if not. My total ignorance of all things coin related is most impressive, indeed. I found what may, or may not, be a coin worthy of proper treatment this morning. I'm not interested in selling it, but am interested in whether it has any significant value, and more importantly, how to handle it so as to not reduce what value it may have. This is a 1922 silver dollar, "LIBERTY" written across the top, "1922" at the bottom, "IN GOD WE" to the left of the neck, and 'TRVST" to the right. Haven't seen the reverse side yet, as it's mounted in what looks to be a sterling belt buckle. It looks like 2 screws on the back side of the buckle will release the circular frame that holds the coin in place. I'll be taking pictures this afternoon and will be happy to share them. If the coin is genuine, it appears to be not worn at all, or very little. So.... Worth taking some pictures? Posting in the right place? Should I remove the 2 screws and see what comes out, or leave it as is until I know more?
Thanks, Rob

Welcome to Coin Community, Robert257. What you have there is a Peace dollar. It's likely to be genuine - they're not sufficiently uncommon to warrant counterfeiting. Having been used in a belt buckle lessens its' collectible value, which is minimal to begin with. 1922's only begin to command decent prices in pristine Uncirculated condition, a status your coin can never have again. By all means, crack it out and take pictures - there are a couple of varieties for that year which command extra attention if not value, and any coin is worth picturing here. We like pictures.

That's a 25 Bryan and a special one.Bet that was never in a belt buckle.Hehehe Welcome to the forum Robert. The Peace dollar, in my opinion, is kinda like Rodney Dangerfield,it gets no respect.Even though it was really not meant for a fully circulated design, it still has a beauty and mystique about it.They are selling on ebay now for 17-18 bucks but with the price of silver rising, I see them bringing a few more bucks soon.As for the 22, if it is a Proof coin, it will command a much higher price. We would need to see pics.

Not having luck with the pictures. Coin is now OUT of the buckle. Edges appear very sharp, but back especially is covered with ancient encrusted remnants of what appears to be silver polish. How best to clean it up without further damaging it? Pics available through email if anyone's interested. Thanks for quick replies. Rob

Don't clean it.It is quite possible that it has been polished for years. You can add a pic here of both sides.

Robert257 ... I'm not sure that has a lot of collectible value but it is 90% silver bullion.
