Speculation or facts welcomed. Wondering why the 1983 P&D Kennedy halfs value is so high. Mintage P =34+ million and D=32+ million but 1982 is valued less at about 1/3 that mintage.
1984 approx 8 million less than the '83 and value is half the '83 value.
Heck, even the 1987 P & D which only came in mint and souvenir sets shows a value less than the 1983 P & D. (2010 Red Book)
AND -- the 1983 values (clad coin)are even higher than the 40% Silver coins?

The biggest reason for the prices of the 1982 and 1983 coins is because no mint sets were issued for those years. With no mints it is harder for collectors to find Unc coins to fill their albums/folders.

If you look at the price guides you will see that all the coins for those two years are higher. Maybe not so much for the Lincoln cents, 1982 the Lincoln cents switched from copper to zinc, and I think they were saved more than the others. I also think, at that time Lincoln cents were the most collected series and most years were saved more than the others.

So again you will see nickel through half dollar are higher for 82 and 83.

You should be able to find lots of coins in rolls. Every time I go through rolls I seem to come across lots of 82 and 83 dates. Really only worth a premium in BU condition, at least at this point.
