I found this Kennedy clip while roll searching half dollars on Friday. I stopped in at a shop yesterday and he indicated he'd probably sell it for $29 in his store, then looking through his cabinet I saw he had a bicentennial clip marked at $89 that looked extremely similar to mine. Any opinions on value?

I'm no good with prices, but nice find!

I use this link as a rough guage, but it's still kind of "rangy" -

To me $29 for this clip sounds high and $89 for the 1976 clip sounds outrageous. See what others say.

I came back from my local coin show today and didn't buy any coin, just pick up 100 2x2 coin flaps for $3.
I stop checking after going around the dozen dealers that was selling their items, because the prices were much higher from last month for what I call less than average quality silver coins.
So maybe coins prices will continue to rise.

You've gotta be kidding. There couldn't be a more textbook example of a curved clip.

Thanks for the input guys. In my dealer's defense I didn't look THAT closely at the bicentennial clip and it may have been a bit larger clip than mine which of course would have affected the price; it may have also been a proof or something other special about it. Really I just glanced over it.

Do you have an opinion as to value coppercoins?

Bicentennial errors, just like State Quarter errors, are valued higher than a generic date because they are limited mintage type coins but there are other factors that can contribute to value(size and type of clip, etc). $20 would probably be a good starting point for the 1972 incomplete (clipped) planchet and it is most definitely genuine with all of the classic diagnostics present.

It is without a doubt a half struck on an incomplete planchet. Chuck said it best:-) It's textbook.

People tend to flock to Bicentennial half errors when they are found so the $89.00 price tag may seem high but is reasonable.

The 1972 D dated half is considered a "generic" error coin and the $29.00 price tag is OK since the missing portion is not that huge.

Thanks,
Bill
