I "liked" the CCF page. I've been on Fb for over a year now and somehow have avoided all the problems that have been listed in this thread. I've reconnected with family and friends and former students going back to my first year of teaching, in 1967, and have had a lot of fun catching up with them. Now - I don't "do" any of the games and I don't click on any links of apps, although I have joined a few groups, and I block 100% of the apps that appear in others' status posts (especially any of the Farmwhatever apps). I've had no virus attacks (but then Macs don't get viruses), and as far as the PM's (not e-mails) go, I've had to "report" only a handful of Friend requests from shapely, scantily-clad females, and of course I report them only after carefully examining their ... um ... requests. If you are a person who mindlessly forwards e-mail junk that your friends and relatives send you, you'll probably have a tough time with Facebook, too. But if you're a skeptic and keep the main purpose of Facebook in mind - that of reconnecting acquaintances - then you'll love Facebook.
As far as anyone "out there" tracking me down because I "like" the CCF pages ... not going to happen, unless someone in my family or a former student who knows where I live makes the connection and burgles my house. Remember, only what YOU post on your profile needs to be there. And thanks for posting the page, bobby131313!

L1011, Thank you! I am pretty proud of them, muself, not that I am predjudiced, or anything like that.....LOL I have no idea where, or when "facebook' started, but I see it listed everywhere, with twitter, (no idea what that is), and Utube, and others. I din't approach Facebook, I was sent an email inviting me to join, and the first one I saw was the daughter, of my God-Parents, at out wedding in the church.. then I found my neice, and her mother, my kid sister. Mant of the invitations have come from very well-known people likeDr Wiles, Wexler, Rick Snow. Those I didn'y mind at all. to the contrary. but then came the emails, "you have a message fromXXXXXX, witha link. that is when it happened. If facebook, and( I tried to contact facebook, at it's source, to report this garbage, and didn't get a response, and the crap kept coming. That is when anything related to facebook was deleted, and blocks put on anything that even remotely resembled it. I have been across the oceans, and done just about everything in the book, but there has always been a limit to how low I woukl=ld go. The Deleted term, is way below what I would consider, no matter how drunk I was. sorry about my opinion of the general topic, but not knowing all the particulars, I can only voice mu opinioon. No offence meant, or intended. 30 dick

I'm curious why so many posters are afraid that they will be 'exposed' as coin collectors. Why is that fact so harmful to anyone?

Understood. I was thinking more along the lines of people in the community telling the bank teller about the presence of silver, thus ruining a roll-hunter's source, or simply increasing the amount of roll-hunting competition. But I do appreciate the concern you bring up. Whether or not you keep your valuables in a vault or at home, burglary is still possible.

I am on facebook but all my stuff is fictitious. No pictures of me, and I don't post anything serious. I just goof around in there. My real "in person" friends know who I am with my log in name and I personally think it is a waste of time for the most part and an open door for trouble.

GO said it quite adequately. One reads about the people who have beeen rodded after attending a coin shoe, etc. I havere been here 10 years, and no one knows I am a coin collector, except y family, anf the grandkids. I keep thedoor to the house with dead-bolts,and the windows barred from within, to prevent them from being opened. Then the door to the computer room is also fitted with a dead-bolt. the wiondow is blocked, so it is not a problem. Yes, it pays to keep some things from the general pubklic. Especially with the influx of "unknowns, from who knows where, and not an idea as to the background of the individual. Dick

livingdinasaur: Great pics.
I haven't had a problem with Facebook but haven't really put much personal info out there. I haven't received any spam emails. Just friend requests or email from friends.

Quote: Not that I am aware of.
Even if there was, I probably would not join it since I would not want people on Facebook know that I am a coin collector.

Friends of friends talk. I don't want any of my coworkers knowing that I might have a large stash of gold or silver in my house. There are only 2 degrees of separation from criminals in my city. Again so true Quote: I'm curious why so many posters are afraid that they will be 'exposed' as coin collectors. Why is that fact so harmful to anyone? Nice to live such a sheltered life. If you live in a large city you would know that the crime rate is nothing to play around testing. Absolutely any personal information as to you having anything of value is an open invitation for a robbery. Two robberies on my block in the last few years alone place one peson in the hospital. Oddly enough both were coin collectors and the robbers somehow knew that. Of course if you read the papers you would see that such things are becoming more and more common due to so many out of work so money from anywhere is the thing. If your on Facebook or any such web site, be carefull.
