My son was at the Sun. flea mkt. yesterday and found this in a 1.00 box. The 2x2 it is in has a price, clearly 70.00. He quickly gives up his buck, and heads to my house. Hard to find in Krause. Eventually since it was tin and '57 we settled on KM#79b. Now I use a Krause 22 yrs. old, and values are 15.,25.,70. for VF,XF,UNC. How well did he do? You find them nowhere to be had. Not google, zilch. Looking around some I discovered(Wicki)that these rarely circulated, except for bank transactions. The mintages are surprising, some years w/only 30,000 pieces, some with none. I'll post a pic of coin in it's stained cardboard in a bit. How that was in a dollar box is nuts, unless you have eyes like mine.

I think it's certainly rare, and certainly a good buy for a buck!

On my edition (I think 2000/2001) it shows $20 for UNC and no values for the others...
It was a part of 13 million or so 10 satangs, but the other ones were all aluminum-bronze, and yours is tin. Krause doesn't show the tin mintages, but where did you find that mintage number?

I believe that is actually KM#73, one medal on uniform, dated 1950(BE2493).
KM# 79.x has 3 medals on uniform.

Please post a clearer picture of the reverse so we can read the date.

That's definitely BE2493/1950, 10 Satang, KM#73.
These were struck with a frozen date from 1954-1973. Mintage 139,695,000.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news :(

I think DCH has it right. 10 satang tin with one medal. The date as I read it is 2493 = 1950.

Value I'm afraid is less than you hoped for. Latest edition (2010) has VF 0.40; XF $1.00; Unc $1.50.

I have two local coin shops, 95% of the inventory is US stuff but they do have some foreign. Once in a while I finger through the boxes with 2x2's and oftentimes I see misidentified coins. Especially when the alphabet/numbers are challenging.
