I have a question about PCGS labels that are applied to State Quarters. Why do some of the slabs have a picture of the states flag and others do not? If anybody can help clear this up for me I would greatly appreciate it!

I think I might have seen one of those before, but I'm not sure. In any case, it's simply another "add on". You can get your coin slabbed with a "special label" based on the coin "variety" (when available), which you pay extra for. I think the top three all have them. I know NGC does. For the State Quarter Series it makes sense. Regular label or State Flag label.

So its nothing special to do with the coin, just another way for the "slab" companys to pad their bottom line.I wonder if it adds anything to the resale vaulue weather it has a flag label or not? I'm guessing not.

TPG companies will apply special labels to submissions if you pay the extra costs. Most large Numismatic auction houses get special labels made based on the amount of coins they submit for grading every year. This is why you will see some very odd/nice labels on slabs. Just remember that some specific labels, such as "First Strike" or "Early Release" or "Anniversary Issue" may or may not carry a premium, unless you have a handful of 1995W ASE's, then the label will definitely carry the premium. As mentioned the flag label is a special one available at an extra cost, but it is also only available on bulk submissions. So Joe Shmo collector can't get his coins slabbed with the flag label, he has to buy it from a promoter already slabbed. When these first showed up on the market, they were, for awhile, only available from David Hall, a firm that claims they do not submit coins to PCGS but only buy them on the open market.
