Hello everyone,

This past weekend I had the chance to visit a coin shop in Wichita. While looking around I stumbled across these three coins. Each coin is one Troy pound of silver. The Silver Eagle in the picture is provided as a reference point to show how massive these coins truly are. I was wondering if anybody on the forum has ever seen rounds like this before, and if you know anything about the creation of the coins.

The shop owner had forgotten to update the posted price after silver ran up last week, and was asking $200 for each coin. Though he was aware that he was selling me the silver for a significant discount (less than $17/oz), he still honored his posted price. I'm pretty sure that I got a good deal on these. What do you think?

I'd say that was a pretty good nab. As long as they're really silver. A troy pound is 12 tr oz, so at 12*19 you got a pretty good deal.

I've owned a few Franklin Mint ASE knock-offs that were 8 and 16 troy ounces but never did pick up any that were 1 troy pound.

Mine were marked .999 Fine Silver and I hope yours are too. If they are not, then they are likely silver or nickel plated.

Edit: Please read this link on fake silver rounds:

Your rounds fall into this category unless they have the rims marked with actual silver content.

my ASE round says one troy pound on it. What scares me about yours is I do not see the fineness of the silver on the round. Mine has .999 fine silver, its usually the ones that do not have how fine the silver is that are just layered in silver
