I have a horrible time finding coins that I would like to own within the realm of series (2-3-20 cents) that I really like in the last couple of years. All of a sudden I found a pratical bevy of little circulated beauties at a recent show and one on
ebay.
I might be stretching the meaning of "Everyman's Coins®" by assuming that coins that are under $100 are a bit easier for most collectors to go after. Two coins I got in this group were under $50 (maybe this threshold is more realistic for the title of "Everyman's Coins®"?). Well, one of the six new coins really is outside of this range since it is well over $100 to obtain.
The coins I obtained and basically cherry-picked were (with my market grade):
1859 1¢ (AU53): Undergraded by seller, better than average strike and great luster
1864 2¢ (AU58-MS62): Awesome look, well struck
1869 2¢ (VF35 - paid XF): Slightly scarcer date, near-perfect circulated appearance; obverse strike a bit weak
1875 3CN (AU53): A truly undergraded coin found on
ebay; the seller either has no clue how to grade 3CN or maybe didn't care
1875-CC 10¢ (VF30 - dealer marked as XF): Still looking for nice circulated CC type, but I can only find the dimes!
1889 3CN (VF35-XF - paid XF): Decent price, great look, scarcer date
