While not a coin presay this artifact came from a lot of 2000 uncleaned Roman coins I brought a few years ago. It's been soaking in olive oil and I think cleaned enough to show good detail. I feel it might be from a ring or maybe a toga clip. Thought you would enjoy seeing it. BTW if you feel it's not coin related I would not be upset if it is removed

Nice . I like it even if it is not a coin. Where on earth did you find a lot of 2000 uncleaned Romans?

Thats neat. Toga clip sounds logical to me. I wonder what it really was used for. Maybe someone at Harlen Berk would be able to tell you more about what its purpose was.

It was actually two lots of 1000 coins that I picked up from a seller in Europe a few years back. Out of the two lots half were culls. That's the chance you take when you buy uncleaned coins. There were several other artifacts in the lot, a couple of bronze rings and broken bronze pieces. I don't think this piece has any real value, but it's a neat little item.

It's bronze, 21mm side to side, and weighs 3.8 grams. I'm thinking about cleaning it a little better and having it mounted as a ring.

Some sort of broach, button or clip seems likely - I found a broach in an uncleaned lot once but it was much more circular and coin like. It sadly didn't have an interesting face on it and also had different fixings on the back making me think this is more a button or rivet type item.
The face on yours is quite stylised with the nose and hair so maybe someone can recognise it as being an effegie of a god?
It does look pretty cool.

Do you know where your uncleaned lot came from, eg the find country? It might give some clues as to who if anyone the face represents. I was thinking it might not be Roman but medieval as it could be looked on as Gothic or gargoyle like? It also bears a striking similarity to these guys The umpalumpas that is not Gene Wilder.

Most of the Slavic gods were similar to the Norse gods as they were both spread by Germanic tribes.
Belobog and Veles both had good heads of hair and beards but most of these gods did unfortunately - I still think its a Roman Umpalumpa!

Quote: having it mounted as a ring.
that's a great idea , 21mm size is just about right for a ring head size. But subject perhaps if it's smile can be restored back on line

May not have any "value", but it sure is intesting looking!
