Why Mint Silver Proof 1999 9 pcs cost a lot more than 2000 10 pcs?
After that 2001 and 2002 rather high, then 2004, 2005, 2006 plunge down again? anybody can explain to me? Thank you very much.

For whatever reason, not many people bought the Silver Proof Sets in 1999. Myself included unfortunately. Then, as the State Quarters series became more popular, people wanted to have a complete set of silver proofs and the demand drove the price up.

FYI........This is not likely to repeat itself for the new Parks Qtrs 11 year series.....anything is possible though of course.
First year (Inaugural) issue materials sometimes do carry premiums.....but certainly not always.
The other years you mentioned, sometimes "low mintage" coins will drive up premiums as well.

It is also important to note that the 5-piece silver quarter set was not available until 2004 (although the 5-piece clad quarter set was available from the beginning).

These 5-piece silver quarter sets create additional supply for those building the Statehood Quarter sets.

The Mint imposed a 2 sets limit per household at the time when I ordered, after 1999 they lift that limit.

Simply because the 1999 silver set has been out longer than the rest of the State Quarter years and that it was the 1st year in the series !

This is the reason. Dealers couldn't hoard large quantities initially.
