so I have a penny from 1983 I found yesterday it stood out so vividly because the D mint mark seemed like it was doubled in plain vision I could clearly see 2 D's like almost next to each other I finally got an ok photo of it to load so let me know what you guys think it's definitely some kind of error but any ideas and what kind of worth do you guys think it has if any I'm new at the whole error coin stuff

Interesting. I'd like to know what the pros have to say about this, too.

i don't know of any MM varieties for that year, but that's not the 83 DDR that I know about. as far as I know, the 83 DDR affects the ONE CENT. That's definitely a cool find. It certainly looks like a RPM, pretty cool!

It looks like to me, the mint mark was hit with something.

1) not a DoubleD die. 2) not a RPM (repunched mint mark) 3) post mint damage.

im pretty sure it isn't zinc rot (about 99% sure) I also don't think its post mint damage because the D is lying over the top of something from the looks of it another D my girlfriend took the only good camera I have for the day so I will have to repost late tonight or tomorrow I don't have any sort of magnification to use either so I can't really look at the rest of the coin or even get a closer look at the mm. What kind would help me out or should I invest in for coin hunting

Hope you can get a better pic. It looks like the rotated D (if that's what it is) is much larger, is that the case or is it the camera angle?
a 10x loop can be found rather easily and definitely at every coin shop I have been to for around $8 to $12.
I look forward to more pictures Peace Brent

If it is a D its alot larger than the primary MM. There is always that slim chance that a die was used on just a couple coins and and discarded after it was noticed.

slash, check out the photo section for tips.. http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/...?FORUM_ID=81i stumbled across it and the FIRST thing you have to do is get your hands away from the camera while you're taking the picture... use a tripod or a set of books to hold the camera directly over the coin, get the best lighting you can --- even if it's a house lamp ! zoom in as far as your auto focus will let you - use macro mode, or find the "flower" setting - it's made for close range shots set the timer and step back it's a good way to get a much better picture with even a "cheaper" digital camera.. I learned VERY fast - it's almost impossible to take a close up picture of a coin while holding the camera i hope this helps :-)
