I received yesterday a lot of 18 error coins for a great price - (IMO) - paid $5.45 with shipping or just under $.31 each.

This 1968 S is the first one I would like help with. Very interesting coin with all that's going on.

Is it a true DD, or just MD or die wear?

It looks doubled to me but I see a lot of die wear also - the rev. looks like MD to me but I don't know much.

If you want to give out a grade I wouldn't mind - I say MS62

Machine doubling. But the coin looks very nice. Just some slight dings on the devices. A nice regular coin for a collection.

Thanks for the info coop, I had a feeling it was Machine Doubling. Sure am glad that someone took good care of it, I LIKE IT - I have put it in a 2x2 and have started to label it.

MR dinasaur Thanks for stopping by and the input. I have read many of your posts and find you to be quite the interesting man. Look forward to future crossings with you.

How do you like his chin and nose - I would assume that is a very clean example of Machine Doubling?

The notching on the are in TRUST and the E in WE is what kept me thinking it might be a DD. The area around the date and MM and LIBERTY look to have a lot of die wear or file marks or die gouges, what would be the proper language to describe the marks?

EDIT I keep trying to change "are" to "R" in above paragraph but it keeps changing it back - oh well

Is this what would be called a filled S? Sure looks like it.

I think this is a great coin for me to learn from - Sorry for all the questions but there's a lot on this coin - to me anyway

Thanks for everything
Brent

Here are a few examples of DD's on the 1968 Cents

Note the examples the doubling is rounded/wider/taller instead of a step down like on your coin.

I do believe the obverse die was maxed out. Probably should have been discarded a half a million coins earlier.
