If they've ripped you off many times, why do you still deal with them? Your business helps keep them ripping off other people.

I don't understand why you would continue to purchse from them if they have ripped you off in the past. After the first time I would attempt to get a refund then pack up and move on to other dealers.

I had never heard of them until this thread. I just took a peek at their website. How have they ripped you off?

Coast to Coast has a bad rep. I look at their ads in Coin World to check prices but would not purchase from them.

Better deals and dealers are available.

Thanks for the heads up! But yes, why do you continue to buy from them if they have ripped you off? And how have they ripped you off?

I do not buy any "raw" coins from them...EVER. When I first began this hobby I did not know as much as I do now, so they were my premier place to purchase coins. Now looking back, 95% of the coins I purchased were not the grades that were specified or had been cleaned.

I purchased a gorgeous 3 cent silver from them in BU condition. It has super rainbow toning on it so it was a keeper. I sent it off to a grader and it came back AU53...so I lost a good bit of money there....bought a stone mountain commem...cleaned....1883 N/C V nickel...cleaned. Numerous Walking halves - CLEANED.

I even complained to the owner one time and he laughed at me over the phone. I don't do business anymore as they don't carry many slabbed coins....

I did however obtain from them a MS67 NGC 1939 Lincoln Cent for only $40.

Does anyone know of a good coin company that is reputable and has good prices? I have bought from many and will never again because of similar policies - Mount Vernon - Coin Depot - Paul Sims - John Paul Sarosi....

<< Admin Snip - We don't send people there. Little tip, if the forum filters block you, deliberating trying to circumvent it will only anger the Staff >>

In this month's Numismatist on page 93 I found the following blurb;

"Kenneth Pines, Columbia MD expelled at the direction of the ANA Board of Governors for his failure to respond to multiple complaints: sale of cleaned, whizzed, tooled and other altered coins, questionable grading practices and excessive fees."

Go ANA!

I have bought raw coins from them a few years ago. The coins were somewhat over graded. Wasn't happy but wasn't out a lot of $$$. They were Walking Liberty halves.

That is actually a bit on the funny side. I remember one of my nighbors that continuously complained about his Ford cars. Yet every other year he would buy a new one. His logic was that eventurally he'll get a good one. I guess that logic works with coin stores too?
Not sure what happened to Coast to Coast but some years back they were OK with many collectors. They used to advertise in the Red Book and had many great deals. One was a MS Graded new Silver Dollar in a NGC slab for postage only. However, since then way to many complaints about them.

C to C seems to offer a lot of raw keys and better dates, which should be a tipoff of a potential ripoff.

From what I have found, their USA coins are usually rip offs but I've picked up Canadian coins for absolutely unreal prices. Some of you guys almost pay to get rid of Canadian coins down there!
