This was mainly a photo experiment so the photos are not the best. Please grade this Morgan as I am in the process of starting a mini-set of these:

AU-55. There appears to be luster breaks on the high points (cheek, hair above ear, and eagles breast).

So what will your mini-set include?

Well at the moment my main focus is on SLQ's, but I think I'll try to get as many different date and mintmark AU/MS Morgans and slowly try to build a complete set of Morgans. I know it will take a long time and immense amounts of money but being a YN I think I'm allowed to have somewhat ambitious goals.

AU-55? That's a relief, it shows that I'm not that bad at grading Morgans. I figured it was an AU-53.

Good luck and take your time (you appear to have more than I do )

My intent was to have a complete set of Morgans, but I was side-tracked by VAMs. I quit counting at 200 and 80% of the collection is dated 1878.

I agree with the AU-55. Best of luck on your quest for the mini set - at the end, it will be worthwile to look at as a whole. But remember, the journey is part of the fun!

Wow, I can never imagine myself collecting VAM's. Too confusing for me. Any opinions on the photos?

I got hooked after I snagged some rare varities for chump change that I eventually flipped for moon money. An analogy would be like finding an 89-CC or 93-S and the seller and all the other buyers not realizing the value. It is relatively "undiscovered country". I only wish I would have started in the 90's when no one bothered. I've been at it since 2006 and have noticed these are getting much harder to find or I'm paying more than I used to.
