Wow - potential congrats.
I have to say - if the other diagnostics aren't matching - that isn't a good sign. We've seen and posted links to several fakes that had all of the 17 diagnostics with altered full and partial dates of 1916.
It is still possible though that this coin slipped through a crack - it does happen.
Someone earlier asked what seller you got them from - that might also make a BIG difference in the liklihood that this is a 1916. Between all of us on here that collect SLQ's and buy online - we know alot about the "regular" sellers.

Is this coin from the recent batch of SLQ's you posted about earlier? I think it had a 1918 in nice shape.
I went back & looked at those to see if I could find the coin in question. I'm no expert, but I did see a type one that, if you look at it just right, appears to have a 6. I'm not seeing the diagnostics on that coin of the 1916. It also looks like the "6" is farther to the right of where it would actually be if it were part of the date.

Yeah, the "type 1" quarter in that lot is definitely a 1917. I thought about that too, but he said that he found two type 1s in a lot of 20...so, he may be talking about a different lot?

No that lot just got shipped out yesterday, it would of got here if I would of gotten the refund faster from another seller. I'm expecting that lot this thursday or friday
I not going to release the sellers name but he does have over 200 positive feed back (100%). After I get a new camera and take some descent pics I will

I'm not sure I understand the rationale behind not releasing the seller's name.....although I support your right to do so. It's possible the sellers pictures could shed some light on the coin.

Im bidding on 4 more lots of 20 from him, the pics wont of helped much anyways, it was only one pic of the whole lot showing the obverse of the coins.

It is fairly easy to find the seller via ebay with that much description by searching completed auctions and current auctions. Most sellers of SLQ lots sell either 5 or 40. BUT, I don't think anyone is looking to be a jerk to you, just hoping to help you diagnose your coin. After all - prior to sending it to a TPG - wouldn't you want to know you weren't sending in a fairly common 1917? Heck most of us are pretty excited to know another one MAY have been found in the wild - that'd be 3 this year!

You know, it may help if you just post the seller's pic, or cut out the obverse shot of the picture. The 1916 has a very distinct "look" even though most of the die diagnostics are subtle, and it can give us a general idea if it has the right look. The dateless 16 I found, I bid on based off of a picture the size of my thumb from the same seller that you just purchased the lot of 40 off of...although I admit to having a bit of luck on that one as well..

I agree with Johnny, if it has the diagnostics of a 1917 it most likely is a altered 1916, as long as you aren't mistaking marks or dirt patterns on the digits to be a 1916.
Are you considering buying a new camera or did you buy one and is waiting for it to arrive?
