I was shown a bunch of family heirloom coins yesterday, and was very surprised to find GOLD where I usually find mountains of 1967 Confederation pennies!

These are some of the best of the bunch, I suspect the 1787 Guinea might have been used in colonial Canada (the family has been in Canada for centuries) and the 1894 1/2 Pond was brought back by a relative who fought in the Boer War (and brings a pretty penny at auction, too- especially in this condition!)

Very nice. The ZAR coin looks excellent. I believe only 39,187 of those were made.

It was definitely nice of them to share these with you and allow you to take photographs.

pattiewhack- That is an amazing old family collection!

Also, the very worn 3rd coin may be a colonial half penny, though I have never seen one with a design just like that. Either way it is very interesting.

Very nice coins, very good photography, of course the ZAR 1/2 Pound sets my heart racing. It should grade nicely.
