I just hope it doesn't look like the 1854 quarter I received from teletrade today, which is in a PCGS slab but has had a NASTY wiping that wasnt at all visible in the pics...
On the converse, the 1836 AU details quarter I bought isn't really scratched to an even mildly serious extent, and its supposed 'rim damage' is just one small nick. I got it for $325 instead of paying $850+ for a 'problem free' one : ). I would personally value the 1836 quarter around $650-700 in terms of eye appeal; my gamble really paid off. It has a lot of really neat die cracks from shattered dies, too. I'm ticked off about the 1854 but the 1836 was nice enough to crack for my album, and I was pretty happy to have gotten a good deal. Overall, taking into account the 1865 half that also arrived today and looks very nice, I'm pleased. I've just got my fingers crossed that the
Trade dollar looks just like the photos. Teletrade can be hit or miss because they mess with their photos to an extent, and this can occasionally hide a nasty problem (unlike with heritage). Getting a coin you just bought for the sake of it that looks like garbage compared to the photo is one thing, but when its a type set coin you get all enthusiastic about, it really is a huge let down.
