...now how do I use it!?!?!? What is the easiest/best/quickest process for attribution? Maybe I just don't know the series well enough, but for me, this is the most confusing variety/attribution book that I have ever tried to use. Very complicated. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

I have to admit it is very very overwhelming when you first get it. The way I went about using it is I studied each of my coions and if I saw something that I thought was something I looked up that date and looiked to se if there was a VAM with those attributes, even then I took alot of pictures and uploaded them here to make sure I wasn't just seeing things and asked alot of questions. I had some disapointments but most of them I attributed correctly. I wasn't even sure what a VAM was until I started coming to this forum

One thing that I did was to try to find pictures of known VAMS (You can find a lot in this forum alone) and then compare it to the ones in the book. That should get you more comfortable in just using the book when you know exactly what you are looking for. Then when it comes time to attribute your own, you are familiar with the book. After that I then compared my own Morgans to the ones in the book. I probably study mine the opposite way that Bryan does, I pick a coin and then go through each VAM for the date. I also upload them because its a lot easier to compare the book to an image blown up on your computer screen. Another thing is that it just takes time...I've spent four, five or even six hours sometimes just looking at the coins and comparing them to the book and I still have questions a lot of the time. Good luck!

That was how I WAS doing it. Going through every individual VAM of a certain date trying to attribute my coin. Spent an hour on just one coin, and then I think I was more confused than when I started!! So then I started looking for obvious die markers on the coins I have and comparing to the book and I think that I may have found a couple right off of the bat that way (still unconfirmed, looking for second opinions in a different thread) Maybe after I go through and attribute the obvious, I will have a little better feel of how to attribute the not-so-obvious.

its always good to get that second opinion because your eyes can definately play tricks on you, especially when you do it looking through a loupe like I do. But I got me a microscope comin so maybe it will be alot easier from now on

Second opinion is also important! I start to see things after looking at my coins for too long. [:p]
Bryan..where are you getting your scope from?

Well, one thing I heard is absolutely right. Until you've memorized that particular date, or you're only interested in the major VAM's for a date, plan on at least an hour per coin. It's that simple.

ChristinaM, I got it from eby, its actually a toy microscope that hooks to the computer, but alot of others use it and say they love it. The model of it is a qx5 and it looks like a kids toy and you can find them on ebay for 79 bucks delivered, I actually got mine for 45 bucks delivered so if you keep looking you can find one cheaper sometimes. They also have a qx3 made by the same company that the qx5 is a upgrade of, and its cheaper on ebay than the qx5 is and it magnifies up to 200x like the qx5, but I am not sure what features they added to the qx5 from the qx3

All of my close-ups are taken with my QX3. I was thinking of upgrading to a QX5, but I decided that if I was going to upgrade, I may as well go for broke and get a stereoscope.
