Hi all, I'm kinda getting into this VAM thing. I think that I have found a couple more in my collection, but would like a more experienced opinion.

Is this an 1881-O VAM #3?

Is this an 1883 VAM #14?

from the pictures you provided and the ones in the book I would say you are right on with the top attribution and the bottom one you could be correct, but it also may be a VAM-12, they both look very simular. And if the date is slanted it could also be a VAM-13I-Need-A-2nd-Set-Of-Eyes-Please-Vams?

I was going back and forth between 12 and 14, but ultimately decided that it is 14 because of the die cracks coming off of the 1.

Wudaya think, VAM-14?

hmmm, maybe.....but......the one in the picture looks like it is a closed "5" and yours is open. Of course it doesn't mention in the book that it is closed so you are probably right because it seems to me they wqould have mentioned it was closed if it was

Yeah, that was throwing me off too, but looking at the date variations for the number 5 (page 124) it only shows one type of 5 being used in 1885. You gotta remember that I am new to all this VAM stuff so there is a good possibility that I am mistaken.
