This evening I am off to look at and appraise the collection of a third generation hoarder. My mother-in-law who does not understand my coin obsession has a friend that really should be on the Hoarders TV program. She has three generations of junk in her house but it also turns out her family has been hoarding coins as well. I have been told there are 3 totes of mixed coins and a large ammunition box of Wheat back cents. I don't expect to find anything really valuable but it will be fun to look through. I also don't expect to be able to purchase anything as hoarders are reluctant to part with anything. The main thing is the get them cataloged and appraised.
Will let you all know if I find anything unusual

Sounds like a good time to me! it would be very cool to find some good dates in the coins after all hoarders are people too.

That does sound like a good time. Do not forget to get some pictures. Three generations. This may be pushing it, but it could indicate the presence of some 19th century items.

I said that this may be pushing it. Without knowing this persons age, it is only speculation on my part. If this were a friend of my mother-in-law and they had a comparable age, then three generations would date back to 1890. Again, I am just speculating. For all we know this friend was born in 1985.

Three generations from "my" mom would also go back to 1892..... so....though it's "speculation" as JB said.... the possibilities are indeed EXCITING !! .....

Wear a miners helmet, and tie a string to your waist and attach it to the front door knob.

I just googled the house. It was built Circa 1930 so I'll take my detector too. Off to pack up my ref books and charge my camera.

Here's hoping for a 1909S VDB Lincoln, 1916 D Merc and 1932 D & S Washingtons. Maybe even a 1916 SLQ or 2.
My grandma was a hoarder, but all she had was things like Wonderbread bags full of Wonderbread bags, and one bag full of Wonderbread twist ties. Unfortunately, no coins.
