Well I've finally gotten around to sorting through some of the stuff that I brought back from my Philippine adventures and I've decided to do a 10 part contest.

Each part, and it's prizes, will in some way relate to the Philippines.

The prizes, IMHO, will go from least to greatest. Prizes will be sent when all 10 parts are finished so that I can put any other prizes you might win in the same package.

PART IV

The Challenge: I attended a festival while in the Philippines. Which one was it and what did it celebrate? Only one guess per day.

Prize: 1975 5 Piso
Note: The prizes pictured are examples and are not the actually prize to be shipped. Sorry...the scanner is down.

Happy guessing!

I'm going to guess the Masskara Festival! I remember that one the most! :)

EDIT: This festival reflects Bacolenos' love for fun and jollity! MassKara Festival is a celebration of life at its fullest joy! Originally designed to show the hardships of the people of Negros, the Masskara Festival has become a tool of escapism and a way to generate revenues for big business.

Sinulog - The festival honors the child Jesus, known as the Santo Niņo (Holy Child), patron of the city of Cebu. It is a dance ritual that commemorates the Cebuano people's pagan origin, and their acceptance of Christianity. The festival features a street parade with participants in bright-colored costumes dancing to the rhythm of drums, trumpets, and native gongs.

Ati-Atihan, the celebrated Filipino Mardi Gras that marks both thanksgiving and the anniversary of the purchase of the island Panay by Malaysian immigrants from the indigenous Ati tribespeople.

Okay here goes my second guess! I think it was the CARACOL SA MAKATI festival which takes place on the last sunday in January! Groups dress as endangered flora and fauna to express the need to preserve and conserve the Philippines natural heritage!

Thanks! :D

We have a winner! Agosos is correct with Pahiyas Festival.

The Pahiyas Festival is a harvest celebration. Every May, people decorate their houses with their crops and compete for prizes.

Thanks for playing! Stay tuned for the next round!
