Very nice! A steal at $5!

I'll leave the grading to someone else.

I'd grade it AU. How about a picture of the rim where the clip is?

I dunno, the edge looks pretty gnashed... possibly PMD?

I thought clips are usually really clean cut.

It's legit. Look how the rim gets weak near the clip and the presence of Blakeley's effect.

Very interesting that this error actually saw circulation. It does hurt the value a bit but still worth more than the $5 you paid($10-20?). That price would probably be about right for a non-State quarter clip(incomplete planchet).

O.K. so I'm fairly new at the error stuff. But, my question is this. 180 degrees out from the clip it looks like the coin was mashed by a vise or pliers. Is this common on a clipped planchet? I would have thought it was home made if I saw that. WOLF

That is what is referred to as the "Blakeley's effect". When the planchet is put into the upsetting machine which gives the coin its rim, and the planchet is incomplete and passes through, there is not enough pressure on the other side of the coin to raise the rim on the opposite side, thus the effect.

I hope I explained that right.

Totally legit error and a steal for $5. Nice find.
Yeah, I agree an AU coin, 55 would be my guess.
