Anybody collect these? The artwork is outstanding - no question. What do you think of the pricing? How is the resale on these - couldn't find anything on ebay? Are they overpriced? Mintage to high? Any comments are fine and welcome - "good" or "bad".

^^^ On the mint site it looks like the image may be "pixelated" on the actual coin. Is this true? I was thinking for a gift, but if so maybe I'll give a 1967 PL set as it has two birds in it and is cheaper.

Yeah they look like someone went to work with a bad ink jet printer.

I really wish the RCM would 'put to bed' making these colourized coins, and get back to the traditional formats. They were interesting at the time, but its kind of old now. This includes the 3d's like the new dinosaur coin.

Thanks for the info. The artwork is nice, but sounds and looks like the mint couldn't pull it off properly.

Dollar1948: They need to put one of those greeting card music makers in the coin so the dinosaur roars and makes sounds. =P

I hate to admit it, but I bought one of those dinosaur coins. Hang on..hang on...it was only for the purpose to add to the collection of all the other 4 dinosaur coins they have made since 2007. I never even opened it..just through it in the large aluminium case with all the other RCM collector stuff.

I like the old series of dinos,I have four sets in total, but that new one would never see my money.
What I like about the old ones and what is unique about them is that EVERY coin is different, yet the same. They are bizarre to look at in a set and will someday make a terrific gift set.

Mintage is low enough but the price is too high in my opinion. Anne of Green Gables was issued at 19.95 instead of 24.95 for essentially the same specs. The metal composition will never play a role in its intrinsic value. At least with silver and gold NCLT you have some long term prospects. The comment made about a bad ink jet printer is accurate. They don't look as good in real life. Overall, not a very good product. But for bird lovers... My wife likes them and for no other reason than to make her happy I am willing to sacrifice a few bucks and avoid confrontations.

The old dino coins are cool: https://www.jandm.com/script/getite...ID=5&PID=294 There is some cool invertebrate fossils, but the Mint seems to stick to the big charismatic mega-fauna. It is nice to see some of the lesser known animals featured though, hope they do more. canadian_coins - I was hoping to get them for a bird lover, but she knows about art and the print quality wouldn't cut it. If you aren't a snob about artwork it would be fine. Technically, the artists drawing are very well done. The Mint really needs to improve the print transfer technique though.

I agree with the pixelization comment. These are NCLT coins which are designed, one would expect, to be closely viewed and enjoyed by the owner. The quality simply isn't there in my opinion.
