A friend at work who knows I collect wanted me to look at this coin today. He thought that it did not look right. I weighed the coin and it weighs 6.2 grams instead of 6.3, not much difference there; but the coin does not look right to me either; something about the color....just does not feel right. What do you think?

I dunno. Maybe it's just been around the block a few times. Kind of has that War Nickel look to it.

I may be wrong, but I think the weight is within the tolerance; Conder101 would know for sure.

The quarter does look "odd" to me, but that might be the photo.

I am interested in seeing other opinions on this one.

Look to be a common quarter, can't fully tell if the color of the photos is matching what you are conveying.

Looks normal to me. Compared it to an 85 and yours seams to have more tailfeathers than the 85 but am not sure if thats anything. WOLF

The color in the pics are pretty close to the color in hand; it looks like aluminum. It may be very ok, but I just cant get used to the color. And-the drop test produces a much different sound. I dropped the pic coin and a 1961 from the same height and the pic coin produces a sound much higher than the 1961. Certainly not worth sending in for authentication, but, I may see if the owner wants to sell it.

Libertad-I have a Fast Weight M-5000 scale. Several other Washingtons (showing much more ware) also weighed 6.2.

Is it possible that it is plated or coated with something?

Well, real or not, it is now mine. I took it back to the guy at work that asked me to find out about it. I reported that I was not sure, but it did not look right. Anyway, he gave it to me-he knows how much I love coins. Kinda wish he had a wheel barrow full.

The coin is a genuine CIRCULATED (fine) silver 25C! Has some heavy "cloud" toning which would be typical for this condition.
