I found this on a local web site. If he really has 1970's they would be silver right and thus 27 dollars would be a good price for these coins right? These are the coins

6-1970 /1-1970D / 6-1972 / 1-1973 / 2-1974 / 1-1974D / 5-bicentennial / 3-"D"bicentennial

1-1977 / 1-1979 for a total of "27"of them

What do you guys think. I could ditch the crummy post 71 ones and make out on the 7 1970 coins if they are silver

here is my breakdown if I understand right
10 dollars worth all the post 1970 would go back to the bank
thats 17 bucks for 7 clad 1970 halves which melt at about 20 bucks
but I thought 1970 and 70D were only proof released coins
so I am wondering if that is a good deal

OK, if I understand correct, you want to buy JFK's, my self being stupid cant figure that out, but I do know that JFK's from 1971 and up are NOT silver.

JFK's from 1965-1970 ARE 40% silver.

and 7 40% JFK's is a value of about $18

now, myself being stupid and idiotic, I may be wrong.

Good enough?

Geepers ..... both of you need to calm down and mind the manners of this forum or I'll report you both to the Admin Dudes.

No need for yelling and insults here on this family forum!!

That said ....

You are correct slash112 that any 1970 dated Kennedy halves are silver ...... but they are 40% silver.

Your original list is confusing ..... you state ...

Quote:
6-1970 /1-1970D

That is not possible ...... and I would not purchase any set claiming this.

For the record ... in 1970 the US Mint produced two separate 40% silver halves ...

There were 2,150,000 1970-D circulation strike and all intended for that years Mint Sets.

There were 2,632,810 1970-S Proof strikes .....

And that is it .... there were no Philly mint coins .... so your hope (guess) for 6-1970 is not going to happen.

Assuming you do have all those 1970 coins ..... do know that your math is wrong for silver melt value .....

Each of the 1965-1970 40% Silver Clad coins contains 0.1479 Troy Ounces of 0.999 silver ..... and at today's spot price of $18.28/oz ..... each has a gross melt value of $2.70

Here is a handy calculator you can use ....

http://silverrecyclers.com/Calculat...culator.aspx

I'm hoping to lower the yelling I see above with some facts.

I just rounded
hence the "about 20"
now would you say these coins would be worth anything other then silver melt since they would be either proof or mint set coins
It seems like an average deal when I saw it online but was wondering
I'll also ask the guy to re check the claimed 1970 coins

Since no business strike 1970 Kennedy halves were produced, either the seller made a mistake or they are proofs, which I doubt.

Quote:

Remember that 40% halves usually sell for below melt, so that would make the value of the 7 silver Kennedys approximately $2 each, perhaps $2.50. If you bought the coins, it would be a fair deal since the 70=D is a key date. Verify that what is in the description is accurate and you could get a nice deal.

Glad you sorted out that, err.... "feud."
