I would love to get some additional opinions on this coin. I would probably lean closer to XF than VF but I want to get better at g

I'm assuming that this is a scan of the coin.
Details are close to XF, but the rim dings would bring it down To VF-35.

Pictures do not show enough details to determine if cleaned.
There is a possibility of that.
Larger pics would help.

thanks wwhitman. This is a learning experience. I could see the rim stuff as you mentioned but did know how that affects the grading.

I suspect the coin was cleaned. I suspect most coins that I see on ebay are cleaned. It is unfortunate but unless someone took care to 'care for' a coin back in 1921, they just don't end up looking that great. so I'm pretty sure it was cleaned at some point. But then again I find it hard to believe some of the coins people say weren't cleaned weren't in fact cleaned at some point in the past. But I'm a cynic in that area and I collect for the love of collecting. So when a coin shows up I like and in a country I don't have, I buy it if the price is right.

I've been looking to add one of these to my OFEC collection for some time. It is very rare to see one without a little dirt on it, so I would agree with the assumption that it has likely been cleaned. As far as grading; I'd want a little more detail on the feathers and hair for XF, so I'd call it VF.

thanks snowman. I'm still pleased with the purchase. I too have been looking for one of these and to be honest I'm not sure why I even won it. I had put a 'catalog' bid in on it and I have seen these go for way more than catalog. people just want one of these I guess and are usually willing to pay much more than catalog. Anyway I actually won it for less than catalog including shipping charges. So maybe folks felt it was cleaned and somehow lessened the 'value' to them. For me, I was thrilled because I now have a coin from Guadeloupe in my OFEC collection.

Yeah, I think the CV is actually understated for these coins. I've been holding out hope that I will come across one of these at a local coin show and be able to talk my way into a bargain. Unfortunately it has been a few years since I started looking. I may just bite the bullet soon and take advantage of the weak Euro to pluck one from MA-Shops.
