I spotted this on ebay tonight,
http://cgi.ebay.com/MintUNC-ERROR-O...em563cbe90c6
So I pulled out a few of my own round 50c and noticed they all have double bars.Would I be right in saying the majority of 1966 50c have the double bar?

No. While they are no uncommon, I would not think they are in the majority. I've also found the majority of the 1966 double bars to be weakly struck.

Thanks Yass, I don't think any exist in proof form, but I keep looking anyways... same with the 50c '70 tilted date, I can't find any of those in proof either.

Brissyboy is the person to contact regarding varieties in proof and mint sets. The only variety I have in proof coins is the pointy A 20 cent. Can't remember the year. Too early and I'm too lazy to plug in my USB. LOL

2004 was the year of the Pointed / Flat A.

Thanks Yass - I still don't have enough posts to be able to PM :-( but will keep it in mind once I do as this has been bugging me for ages.
In Proof 50c (not sure about other coins) the variations I know (because I have them) of are:
'79 - normal and double bar
'80 - normal and double bar
'94 - wide and narrow date
'04 - Pointy A and flat A

So are there any circulation 50c without the bars? The guides I've looked in only say that the 1979 and 1980 are with and without.

Mr T, the '79 and '80 are both with and without in circulation, mint and proof. The '66 is with and without in circulation and mint - I am still searching for a '66 proof with DB and haven't been able to find anyone that has seen one. No other years had the DB, although there was someone saying that they had found a recent year with DB but I have never seen any evidence of such.

I have read that many of the double bars have a weak double bar strike, these are not what you should look for. You should be looking for the ones with a stronger strike. They are very.very rare to come across.
