Out of 20 rolls, took almost 200 coppers. The wheats are disappearing, people are getting hip: '36 '45 '46 P&S '52 D '54 D '55 P&D '57 D. It's still early, there are nics to be had for the weekend.

I think when Grandma's and Grandpa's and Great Uncles dump in their "penny hoards", that the Wheats will "generally" stay consistent. And this is true with "Silver Huntin'" too.....but ......you talk about "getting hip".......Man ! there have been TENS OF THOUSANDS "get hip" to the Silver Hunt ! .... It's become like a SuperBowl sport versus Lawn Darts in comparison ! .....

I've been buying the occasional roll here and there and have had virtually ZERO luck for the past five years.
Welcome to this world. I don't think people are getting savy so much as the available supply is getting filtered out more and more by the box hunters.

9 wheats in 20 rolls? For me thats insane! Thats almost one in every other roll! I average one in 7 rolls, or less!! I would be bursting for joy if I got that many!

I still think that in 30 years we'll be saying the same thing about copper cents. Finding 10 in a box will be a bonanza.
I've been following a thread on a precious metals forum where the old timers are talking about what it was like in 1965. It seems that very few people had the foresight to grab all the silver that they could. More and more people seem to be waking up to the whole copper cent value 18 years after they stopped making them.

Good copper....lousy wheats...
I cannot disagree. Less than a month ago, I visited my local coin dealer. Behind the counter sat 2 5-gallon buckets that were chock full of wheats. 30's, 40,s, and 50's stuff mostly... that they bagged and sold for $4.95 per 100. I've never found anything of value in them, but I am guilty of buying a bag or three now and then...(especially when I see a BU...or a nice mix of steelies...)
Today when I went in, they didn't have any bagged in the counter...and the buckets were nowhere to be found.
I'm not saving all of the copper I find...but I am saving everything that still shows some luster...
