My wife came home from visiting her parents with two rolls of nickels that her grandfather had stashed away. One had no coins older than 1970 and the other had none older than 1974. Both were almost two thirds 1964 ... no buffs or wars unfortunately. You'd think the pre-60s would be in really good shape, but they all look like coins I pull now except for the hazy toning.

I know about the abundance of 64's, through my roll searching as well. It can be quite disappointing to say the least. Hang in there, that buffalo or war or maybe even a liberty head is in your future!

So are the 64's the same with the Dimes with the silver content ?

No the only nickels with any silver in them are the War Nickels from 1942-1945 and they are 35% silver.

Also, not every 1942 is going to have silver. Look for the large mintmark above Monticello.
